Physical Security Defensive Design
“From terrain to tactics — build environments that deter, delay, and defend.”
Service Description
Modern threats demand more than cameras, locks, and alarms—they require a strategic, layered defense built on analysis, adaptability, and decisive leadership. The Physical Security Defensive Design course equips organizations to move beyond reactive security measures and develop a proactive, doctrine-driven approach rooted in proven military methodology. This 8-hour program includes 4 hours of expert-led instruction and a 4-hour applied workshop, where participants refine or develop their own Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) under direct subject-matter-expert (SME) guidance. Using the U.S. Army’s OAKOC framework—Observation, Avenues of Approach, Key Terrain, Obstacles, and Cover & Concealment—students will learn to evaluate their environment, identify vulnerabilities, and shape both natural and built terrain to their advantage. Core concepts of Defense in Depth guide participants through the process of layering deterrence, detection, delay, response, and defeat, ensuring that every element of the organization’s security posture contributes to a unified, resilient defense. Instruction extends beyond physical measures to cover contingency planning and continuity of operations, with a focus on PACE (Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency) communications planning and succession of command frameworks. These ensure that when adversity strikes, leadership remains clear, communication remains functional, and teams can fight the fight—not their plan. For organizations seeking a deeper level of customization, an optional second day is available (see Add-Ons section) for facility walkthroughs, advanced SOP/TTP refinement, or tailored instruction specific to their site or operational environment. By course completion, participants will walk away with a tested framework, a draft or refined security plan, and the confidence to implement practical, terrain-informed, and mission-ready defenses. This course empowers teams to protect what matters most—people, property, and continuity of operations—through informed design, disciplined planning, and decisive execution.
